Singer Katie Melua has set the world record for the deepest underwater concert, held 303 meters (994 feet) under the sea inside the hollow leg of an offshore North Sea rig, the artist and oil group Statoil said.
The 22-year-old Irish-Georgian artist and her five-member band, who for the occasion donned orange overalls like those worn by the oil workers, performed for 35 minutes inside the Troll A platform.
"This was definitely the most surreal gig Ive ever done," Melua said in a Statoil statement.
The record was confirmed by the Guinness Book of World Records.
"Its the craziest thing Ive ever seen, itll be difficult to beat this record," the books editor-in-chief Craig Glenday told Norwegian daily Dagbladet.
In order to accomplish the feat, Melua, known for her hit "Nine Million Bicycles", had to undergo survival training to learn to pull herself from a submerged helicopter and to dive 30 meters into the sea.
