5 Popular Web 2.0 Sites

Last.Fm - last.fm

I started using Last.FM so I could show my recently played tracks on my blog. I then discovered there is far more to this website, it recommends music you may like through a ‘personal station’ and most of the time it is spot on. You can also listen to neighborhood radio stations, these are other users personal stations who have a similar taste to yourself. Last.Fm is also a great way of knowing what the top tracks around the globe are and what the future top tracks might be.

Del.icio.us - del.icio.us

Someone in work suggested this website to me. I didn’t think there was much to this website but it seems that del.icio.us is becoming a very popular and well known website. Del.icio.us allows you to bookmark your favorite websites for the world to see. But thats not all you can do. There are many other things this website can do. One example is shown here on this very blog. The del.icio.us block (on the right) is automatically pulling my newest bookmarks directly from their website.

Flickr - flickr.com

For some reason I never really wanted to sign-up for this website until a couple of weeks ago. I had a hard time trying to find a nice gallery system that I could integrate with my wordpress theme. In the end I signed up for flickr and since then I have been addicted to the website. Flickr is a photo hosting website which allows you to upload and organise photos. There is then tons of things you can do with the website, I personally love looking through the colourful photos and Christmas photos by using the search function. There are many other things you can do with flickr, my photo album is running by taking all my photos directly from flickr.

Digg - Digg.com

I have been keeping my eye on this site for a while, and it still seems to be growing at the speed of light. Digg allows users to submit stories to the site, these are usually in the form of blog posts. Other users then ‘Digg’ the stories which they like. The more times a story it ‘Dugg’ the higher on the list it will get. This then creates a list of top stories with stories people find the most interesting at the top. Of course this is another website I have magically integrated into my blog. I have set-up a plugin so you can digg any of my blog posts at the press of a button *hint hint*.

NetVibes - netvibes.com

This is my favourite website at the moment. NetVibes is a personal homepage which allows you to add different ‘modules’ to the page. On my netvibes I have added a calendar, bbc news, digg, engadget, meebo messenger, to-do list, del.icio.us links and notes modules. I have also setup a tab which shows all the different feeds from blogs I visit. This website it so useful. It is basically a way of combining all of my favorite sites from this list into one homepage. It is very easy to use and highly customisable. If you are looking for a nice homepage that can do almost anything I suggest you use this site. It is fantastic!
